Op 5 oktober 2017 vond de 9de editie van The World’s 50 Best Bar Awards plaats in Londen. The World’s 50 Best Bar Awards is een initiatief van Drinks International, een tijdsschrift voor de global drinks industry.

Drinks International coördineert de totstandkoming van de 50 beste bars uit de wereld gebaseerd op nominaties van 400 prominente figuren uit de barindustrie zoals Lewis Jaffrey, Jim Meehan, Charlie Ainsbury, Alex Kratena, Peter Dorelli en Tim Phillips.

Opvallend dit jaar is dat in de top 5 maar liefst 3 hotelbars zijn vertegenwoordigd met op nummer 1 de American Bar in The Savoy Hotel in Londen. Londen doet het sowieso wel goed in de top 50 met maar liefst 8 bars die er zijn vertegenwoordigd. De beste bar in Azië is Manhattan in Singapore, een klein land met maar liefst 6 noteringen in deze lijst. De Amsterdamse Tales & Spirits mag als enige Nederlandse bar zichzelf een van de 50 beste bars van de wereld noemen.
